New Hampshire Revised Statutes 261:157-a – Local Option; Exemption for Certain Other Veterans

The legislative body of a city or town may adopt an ordinance waiving the fee to be charged for a permit to register one motor vehicle owned by any person who:
I. Is a former prisoner of war and was captured and incarcerated while serving in a qualifying war or armed conflict as defined in N.H. Rev. Stat. § 72:28, V, including those serving in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and who was honorably discharged, provided that such person has furnished the city or town clerk with satisfactory proof of these circumstances; or
II. Was awarded the Purple Heart medal and who was honorably discharged or is still on active duty, provided that such person has furnished the city or town clerk with satisfactory proof of these circumstances; or
III. Survived Pearl Harbor and was honorably discharged, provided that such person has furnished the city or town clerk with satisfactory proof of these circumstances.

- Active duty: means full-time duty as an enlisted member, or as a commissioned or warrant officer, in any branch of the armed forces. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:50
- legislative body: shall mean a town meeting, school district meeting, village district meeting, city or town council, mayor and council, mayor and board of aldermen, or, when used to refer to unincorporated towns or unorganized places, or both, the county convention. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:47
- Motor vehicle: shall mean :
I. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:60 - Person: shall mean the same as provided in N. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 259:74
II. Was awarded the Purple Heart medal and who was honorably discharged or is still on active duty, provided that such person has furnished the city or town clerk with satisfactory proof of these circumstances; or
III. Survived Pearl Harbor and was honorably discharged, provided that such person has furnished the city or town clerk with satisfactory proof of these circumstances.
