Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 466:16
- Civil forfeiture: The loss of ownership of property used to conduct illegal activity.
- governing body: shall mean the board of selectmen in a town, the board of aldermen or council in a city or town with a town council, the school board in a school district or the village district commissioners in a village district, or when used to refer to unincorporated towns or unorganized places, or both, the county commissioners. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:48
- state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
- Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
Each local law enforcement officer to whom the warrant named in N.H. Rev. Stat. § 466:14 is issued shall return the warrant, on or before August 31, to the local governing body issuing it and, shall state in the return the number of owners who received and paid the civil forfeiture, the number of dogs in the city or town which have been seized and held under the provisions of N.H. Rev. Stat. § 466:14, and the number of owners who have received summons to a district or municipal court for failure to pay the civil forfeiture pursuant to N.H. Rev. Stat. § 466:13 or to license the dog pursuant to N.H. Rev. Stat. § 466:1.
