Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 511:24

  • Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
  • Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
  • Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
Service may be made on the defendant before or after leaving the attested copy of the writ as provided in N.H. Rev. Stat. § 511:23, and the officer shall not be liable for an excessive attachment although the property so attached exceeds in value the amount of the damage claimed in the writ.
