Terms Used In New Hampshire Revised Statutes 514:2
- Defendant: In a civil suit, the person complained against; in a criminal case, the person accused of the crime.
- justice: when applied to a magistrate, shall mean a justice of a municipal court, or a justice of the peace having jurisdiction over the subject-matter. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:12
The defendant may be permitted to enter an appearance after a default, at the discretion of the court or justice, upon the payment of reasonable costs.
