- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- Conversion: means a change in the character of residential real property from a rental to an ownership basis. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 356-C:1
- Damages: Money paid by defendants to successful plaintiffs in civil cases to compensate the plaintiffs for their injuries.
- Disabled tenant: means a tenant who is receiving aid to the totally and permanently disabled from the New Hampshire division of human services, disability benefits from the social security administration or benefits for total disability from the department of veterans affairs. - following: when used by way of reference to any section of these laws, shall mean the section next preceding or following that in which such reference is made, unless some other is expressly designated. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:13
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- person: may extend and be applied to bodies corporate and politic as well as to individuals. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:9
- Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
- registered mail: when used in connection with the requirement for notice by mail shall mean either registered mail or certified mail. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:32-a
- Settlement: Parties to a lawsuit resolve their difference without having a trial. Settlements often involve the payment of compensation by one party in satisfaction of the other party's claims.
- state: when applied to different parts of the United States, may extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall include said district and territories. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 21:4
- Tenant: means a person who has entered into a lease or other contractual arrangement with the owner. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 356-C:1
- Tenant household: means one or more persons, whether related or not, who occupy a dwelling unit in residential real property on a rental basis pursuant to a valid lease or oral or written rental agreement. See New Hampshire Revised Statutes 356-C:1
