(a) It is the duty of the clerk of the courts of record, and they are required, to keep a judgment index in which the name of each person, partnership, firm or corporation against whom a judgment or decree is rendered shall be entered under the proper alphabet or letter of the person, partnership, firm or corporation, giving the date, number of the cause and amount of the judgment.

Terms Used In Tennessee Code 18-1-106

  • Corporation: A legal entity owned by the holders of shares of stock that have been issued, and that can own, receive, and transfer property, and carry on business in its own name.
  • Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
  • Person: includes a corporation, firm, company or association. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
  • Record: means information that is inscribed on a tangible medium or that is stored in an electronic or other medium and is retrievable in a perceivable form. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105

(1) Each page of the index shall have five (5) columns, as follows:

Name.Date.No.Cause.Amount.

(2) Two (2) sets of these columns may be on each page.
