Terms Used In Tennessee Code 49-11-909

- Work-based learning: means the application of academic and technical knowledge in a work setting that involves actual work experience. See Tennessee Code 49-11-901
- Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
In a work-based learning program, a maximum of six (6) credits may be earned in one (1) school year. At least one (1) credit must be earned through related classroom experience, which must include a minimum of two (2) periods per week of classroom instruction. A minimum of five (5) hours per week of supervised work experience is required for each additional credit earned. Students earning credits for work experience must be supervised by a certified work-based learning coordinator. Work-based learning programs must adhere to all state and federal child labor laws.
