(a) Any person employed in a public high school as an agriculture education teacher may be employed on a twelve-month contract, or as recommended by the local agricultural education craft advisory committee. These contracts shall be subject to approval by the local board of education.

Terms Used In Tennessee Code 49-5-416

  • Agriculture: means :
    (i) The land, buildings and machinery used in the commercial production of farm products and nursery stock. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
  • Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
  • Person: includes a corporation, firm, company or association. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
  • Year: means a calendar year, unless otherwise expressed. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
(b) All high school agricultural education programs that were twelve-month programs for the 1992-1993 fiscal year, or any fiscal year thereafter, shall be maintained as twelve-month programs by the local board of education, so long as a quality agricultural education program, as determined by criteria established by the career and technical education division, agriculture education program, of the department of education, is maintained.
