Terms Used In Tennessee Code 8-48-202
- Military service: as used in this part , includes the enlistment or induction into the United States army or any branch thereof, the United States navy, the air force, the marine corps, the coast guard, the merchant marine, or any other military activity carried on in the aid of the war effort. See Tennessee Code 8-48-201
- Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
- Service: means service as a general employee, a teacher, a state police officer, a wildlife officer, a firefighter, a police officer, a state judge, a county judge, an attorney general, a commissioner or a county official which is paid for by an employer, and also includes service for which a former member of the general assembly is entitled to under former §. - State: means the state of Tennessee. See Tennessee Code 8-34-101
- United States: includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
Whenever any person holding a state or county office is inducted into the military service of the United States, such induction shall not operate to create a permanent vacancy in the office, but upon the return of the officer from the military service, such person shall be entitled to resume the duties of the office for the remainder of the term for which the officer was elected; provided, that it has not theretofore already expired.
