Terms Used In Tennessee Code 8-48-204
- Person: includes a corporation, firm, company or association. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Service: means service as a general employee, a teacher, a state police officer, a wildlife officer, a firefighter, a police officer, a state judge, a county judge, an attorney general, a commissioner or a county official which is paid for by an employer, and also includes service for which a former member of the general assembly is entitled to under former §. See Tennessee Code 8-34-101
- State: means the state of Tennessee. See Tennessee Code 8-34-101
- United States: includes the District of Columbia and the several territories of the United States. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
Whenever any state or county officer is inducted into the military service of the United States, the duties of the office shall be discharged temporarily during the absence of such officer by some other person legally qualified to discharge the duties of the office and selected in the manner hereinafter set out as to the various offices involved.
