- Acquittal:
- Judgement that a criminal defendant has not been proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
- A verdict of "not guilty."
- Agriculture: means :
(i) The land, buildings and machinery used in the commercial production of farm products and nursery stock. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105 - Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Amortization: Paying off a loan by regular installments.
- Applicant county: means any county that applies to participate in the program. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Appraisal: A determination of property value.
- Appropriation: The provision of funds, through an annual appropriations act or a permanent law, for federal agencies to make payments out of the Treasury for specified purposes. The formal federal spending process consists of two sequential steps: authorization
- Certified: refers to whether any jail, workhouse or penal farm facility has been found to have met the minimum standards for local correctional facilities as provided for in §. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Commissioner: means the commissioner of correction or the commissioner's designee. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Contract: A legal written agreement that becomes binding when signed.
- County mayor: means and includes "county executive" unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Fair market value: The price at which an asset would change hands in a transaction between a willing, informed buyer and a willing, informed seller.
- Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.
- Gift: A voluntary transfer or conveyance of property without consideration, or for less than full and adequate consideration based on fair market value.
- Grant: means those funds provided under this chapter by the state to the county for which the state does not require repayment by the county. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Highway: includes public bridges and may be held equivalent to the words "county way" "county road" or "state road". See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Lands: includes lands, tenements and hereditaments, and all rights thereto and interests therein, equitable as well as legal. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Lease: A contract transferring the use of property or occupancy of land, space, structures, or equipment in consideration of a payment (e.g., rent). Source: OCC
- Loan: means those funds provided under this chapter by the state to the county for which the state does require repayment by the county. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Obligation: An order placed, contract awarded, service received, or similar transaction during a given period that will require payments during the same or a future period.
- Participating county: means any county having a certified or provisionally certified facility or any other county selected for participation in the program by the commissioner. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Person: includes a corporation, firm, company or association. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Plan: means the method by which the county intends to utilize the assistance available under this chapter. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Probation: A sentencing alternative to imprisonment in which the court releases convicted defendants under supervision as long as certain conditions are observed.
- program: means the method of providing financial assistance and incentive to counties for the purposes provided in this chapter, through increased subsidies, grants or loans. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
- Real property: Land, and all immovable fixtures erected on, growing on, or affixed to the land.
- real property: include lands, tenements and hereditaments, and all rights thereto and interests therein, equitable as well as legal. See Tennessee Code 1-3-105
- Reporter: Makes a record of court proceedings and prepares a transcript, and also publishes the court's opinions or decisions (in the courts of appeals).
- Subsidy: means that amount of money paid by the state to a county in accordance with §. See Tennessee Code 41-8-103
