Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 12:8-6

  • Oath: A promise to tell the truth.
  • oath: includes "affirmation. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
12:8-6. The president or in the absence of the president, any member of the commission may administer the oath of office to any newly appointed commissioner, deputy maritime pilot, full branch maritime pilot, docking pilot or apprentice and an oath to any person appearing before the commission. By majority vote of the authorized membership, the commission may cause the issuance of subpoena to compel the appearance of persons or the production of documents for use in accident investigations, incident investigations, licensure investigations and revocation proceedings.
