- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 55. a. No foreign bank shall establish a representative office in this State unless it is licensed to establish a representative office at that place.
b. (1) No person shall establish a representative office in this State as representative of a foreign bank unless that bank is licensed to establish the office as a representative office.

(2) For purposes of sections 37 through 86 of P.L.1996, c.17 (C. 17:9A-418 through C. 17:9A-467), if any person establishes an office in this State as representative of a foreign bank, that foreign bank shall be deemed to establish the office as a representative office.
c. Neither subsection a. nor subsection b. of this section shall prohibit a foreign bank which establishes a federal agency or federal branch in this State from establishing one or more representative offices in this State.
