Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:19-2

  • Board: means the board of education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • District: means a school district. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 18A:19-2. Except as provided in subsection b. of N.J.S.18A:19-4, a claim or demand against a school district shall not be paid by the secretary or treasurer of school moneys, as appropriate, unless the claim or demand is authorized by law and the rules of the board of education of the district, is fully itemized and verified, has been duly audited as required by law, has been presented to, and approved by, the board of education at a meeting thereof, or presented to, and approved by, a person designated by the board of education for that purpose, and the amount required to pay the claim or demand is available for that purpose.
