Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 18A:66-2.2

  • Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
  • Department: means the State Department of Education. See New Jersey Statutes 18A:1-1
  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 4. The Adjutant General of the Department of Military and Veterans’ Affairs shall be responsible for determining whether any person seeking to be considered a “veteran” under N.J.S.18A:66-2, for the purpose of eligibility for a veteran’s retirement allowance, meets the criteria set forth therein and adjudicating an appeal from any person disputing this determination. The determination of the Adjutant General shall be binding upon the Division of Pensions and Benefits.
