Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 24:6I-56

  • Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
  • Remainder: An interest in property that takes effect in the future at a specified time or after the occurrence of some event, such as the death of a life tenant.
86. Severability.

If any part, section, clause, paragraph, sentence, or provision, section of P.L.2021, c.16 (C. 24:6I-31 et al.) shall be adjudged by any court of competent jurisdiction to be unconstitutional or otherwise invalid, that judgment shall not affect, impair, or invalidate the remainder thereof, but shall be confined in its operation to the section, clause, paragraph, sentence, or provision thereof directly involved in the controversy in which the judgment shall have been rendered.
