Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 26:8-4
- birth: means the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception, irrespective of the duration of pregnancy, which, after such separation, breathes or shows any other evidence of life such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord, or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or the placenta attached. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
- NJ-EDRS: is a n electronic registration system for completing a certification of death or fetal death record that is authorized, designed and maintained by the State registrar. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. - registrar: means the local registrar of vital statistics of any district. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
- State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
- State registrar: means the State registrar of vital statistics. See New Jersey Statutes 26:8-1
26:8-4. Duty to furnish information relative to birth, death, marriage, civil union, domestic partnership. Upon demand of the State registrar in person, by mail, by means of the NJ-EDRS, or through the local registrar, every physician, midwife, informant, funeral director, or other person having knowledge of the facts relative to any birth, death, fetal death, marriage, civil union or domestic partnership, shall supply such information as he may possess, upon a form provided by the State registrar, or through the NJ-EDRS, or upon the original birth, death, fetal death, marriage, civil union or domestic partnership certificate or its electronic facsimile or digitized form thereof.
