- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. If any person against whom there is any of the causes of action specified in sections 2A:14-1, 2A:14-2, 2A:14-4, 2A:14-5 and 2A:14-8 of this title, or if any surety against whom there is a cause of action specified in any of the sections of article 2 of this chapter, dies before the expiration of the time limited thereby, the space of 6 months next succeeding such death shall not be computed as a part of the period of time within which the action is required by the section to be commenced.
