Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 2A:18-45
- Appeal: A request made after a trial, asking another court (usually the court of appeals) to decide whether the trial was conducted properly. To make such a request is "to appeal" or "to take an appeal." One who appeals is called the appellant.
- Docket: A log containing brief entries of court proceedings.
- Transcript: A written, word-for-word record of what was said, either in a proceeding such as a trial or during some other conversation, as in a transcript of a hearing or oral deposition.
If a judgment docketed as provided in this article is reviewed upon appeal, and a duly certified transcript of the judgment of the court upon the appeal shall be delivered to the clerk of the court wherein the judgment is docketed, such clerk shall file the transcript in his office, and enter, in short form, in the margin of the docket, opposite the entry of the judgment the substance of the determination upon the appeal.
