- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Any person, either solely or as a member of any court, or in the execution of any order, judgment or process, who shall knowingly recommit, imprison or restrain of his liberty, or cause to be recommitted, imprisoned or restrained of his liberty, for the same cause, except as provided by section 2A:67-31 of this title, any person so discharged or who shall knowingly aid or assist therein shall forfeit to the party aggrieved the sum of $1400, to be recovered in an action at law in the superior court and shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.
