- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 1. Upon the application of any disabled veteran eligible to operate a motor vehicle in this State under the provision of R.S.39:3-10, the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles may issue for a motor vehicle owned or leased by such a person a license plate bearing the term “Disabled Vet” and registration numbers to be selected from the following registration numbers which shall be reserved for disabled veterans: D V 1 through D V 9999 and 1 D V through 9999 D V. The plate shall resemble the following illustration:

For the purposes of this section, “disabled veteran” shall mean any citizen and resident of this State now or hereafter honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances from active service in any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States and who has been or shall be declared by the United States Veterans Administration, or its successor, to have a service-connected disability.
