- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 14. A person who displays or causes or permits to be displayed any sign, mark, or advertisement, or otherwise identifies that person as a private inspection facility, a registered motor vehicle repair facility or an emission inspector when not holding a valid license or registration issued by the director, or who inspects a motor vehicle without being licensed as a private inspection facility, or who conducts an emission inspection without being licensed as an emission inspector, or who performs for compensation an emission-related repair on a motor vehicle that has failed an emission test without being registered as a motor vehicle emission repair facility, or who transfers or attempts to transfer a valid license or registration, shall be subject to a fine of not less than $1,000 or imprisonment for not more than 30 days, or both. Any fine collected under the provisions of this section shall be paid to the State Treasurer and deposited in the “Motor Vehicle Inspection Fund” established pursuant to subsection j. of R.S.39:8-2.
