- Joint committee: Committees including membership from both houses of teh legislature. Joint committees are usually established with narrow jurisdictions and normally lack authority to report legislation.
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. - Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
- Testify: Answer questions in court.
Such joint committee shall have power to issue subpoenas, compel the attendance of any of the officers of the fire districts affected, compel the production of all books and papers relating to the subject matter under consideration, administer oaths or affirmations to any person appearing before it to testify, and shall have the same power to enforce its process of subpoena and to compel any person to attend and testify as is given to committees appointed by the common council of any city under the provisions of sections 40:48-25 to 40:48-28 of this title.
