- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. If any petition requesting that the name of the person so indorsed be printed upon the official ballot shall be found to be defective, the clerk of the board of water commissioners shall forthwith notify the candidate so indorsed, setting forth the nature of such defect and the date when the ballots will be printed, and the candidate indorsed on such defective petition shall be permitted to amend such petition either in form or substance so as to remedy such defect, at any time prior to the date set for the printing of such ballots.
