Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 40A:9-144
- clerk: means the clerk of a municipality or of a board of chosen freeholders. See New Jersey Statutes 40A:1-1
- collector: when used in relation to the collection of taxes or water rents or other public assessments, includes all officers charged with the duty of collecting such taxes, water rents or assessments, unless a particular officer is specified. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Immediately to the left of the question there shall be printed the words “Yes” and “No” , each with a square, in either of which the voter may make a cross ( x ), or a plus sign (+) or check mark ( X ) according to his choice. There shall also be printed the following: “Place a cross ( x ), or a plus sign (+) or check mark ( X ) in one of the above squares indicating your choice.” Where voting machines are used, voting thereon shall be equivalent to the foregoing.
The election shall be held in accordance with the general law relating to public questions to be voted on in a single municipality at elections as provided for by Title 19 (Elections) of the Revised Statutes. No election shall be held pursuant to this section on or after January 1, 1982.
