The board of trustees may, in its discretion, determine to purchase group insurance coverage for the death benefit provisions as provided in sections 5 and 6, subsection (3) of section 7, section 9, and subsection (5) of section 10 of P.L.1944, c.255 (C. 43:16A-5 through C.43:16A-7, C.43:16A-9, and C. 43:16A-10) and sections 16 and 17 of P.L.1964, c.241 (C. 43:16A-11.1 and C. 43:16A-11.2), or may determine not to purchase any group insurance coverage for the death benefit provisions heretofore mentioned.
