Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 44:8-121

  • person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State.   • State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
15. When a person shall apply for public assistance for himself or his dependents, the municipal or county director of welfare, as appropriate, shall inquire into the facts, conditions and circumstances of the case, including customary place of abode, family connections, living conditions, resources, income, and causes direct and indirect of the person’s need, and such other matters as the commissioner may require, making a written record thereof in such manner as may be prescribed by the commissioner. Upon ascertainment of the foregoing facts, conditions and circumstances, the municipal or county director of welfare, as appropriate, shall render assistance to an eligible applicant or his dependents. The cost of public assistance shall be borne by the State.
