- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. A check shall be affixed to every parcel of baggage taken for transportation by a railroad company if there is a handle, loop or fixture on the parcel to which a check can be attached. A duplicate check shall be given to the passenger or the person delivering the baggage on his behalf.
If such check is refused on demand, the company shall pay the passenger ten dollars to be recovered in a civil action and no fare shall be collected from the passenger and any fare paid by him shall be refunded by the conductor in charge of the train.
