- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. 24. This act shall be liberally construed to effectuate its purposes. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with any of the provisions of this act are, to the extent of such inconsistencies, superseded and shall be deemed inoperative. If any provision of this act, or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the sections that can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end the provisions of this act are severable.
