Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 4:19-15.21
- Jurisdiction: (1) The legal authority of a court to hear and decide a case. Concurrent jurisdiction exists when two courts have simultaneous responsibility for the same case. (2) The geographic area over which the court has authority to decide cases.
- State: extends to and includes any State, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia and the Canal Zone. See New Jersey Statutes 1:1-2
- Summons: Another word for subpoena used by the criminal justice system.
21. The Superior Court and the municipal courts shall have jurisdiction to hear and determine in a summary manner proceedings for violations of any of the provisions of this act. Penalties for such violations shall be enforced and recovered pursuant to “the penalty enforcement law” (N.J.S. 2A:58-1 et seq.) at the suit of the Commissioner of Health of the State of New Jersey or of the local board of health or the municipality. Process shall be either in the nature of a summons or warrant.
