- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. A person who shall plant a hedge for fencing upon the line of a public highway three rods or more wide, may erect and keep up, for the preservation of such hedge for a period not exceeding six years from the planting thereof, a fence of the kind he may choose, out into the public highway at a distance of four feet from the hedge; and neither the officer, board or body having control of the highways nor any other person shall, within the six-year period, remove, destroy or in any manner injure the fence.
