Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 53:1-18.1
- Arrest: Taking physical custody of a person by lawful authority.
- Complaint: A written statement by the plaintiff stating the wrongs allegedly committed by the defendant.
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. Every law enforcement officer designated in R.S. 53:1-15 shall, immediately upon the arrest of any person for or within a reasonable time after the filing of a complaint by a law enforcement officer charging any person with any offense against the laws of the United States, or any offense against the laws of this State, relating to narcotic or dangerous drugs, whether the same shall be indictable or otherwise, take the fingerprints of such person and forward copies thereof together with photographs and such other description and information as is required by such section in the case of the arrest of persons for any offense indictable under the laws of this State.
