Terms Used In New Jersey Statutes 56:8-55
- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. “Automatic dialing device” means equipment capable of being programmed to randomly or sequentially dial seven-digit or ten-digit telephone numbers and, upon connection, play back a pre-recorded message.
“Information service” means live or pre-recorded voice or computer-generated communication initiated by use of a telephone number for a fee or charge billed by or on behalf of the information service provider in addition to any charges for the local or long distance transmission or other services associated with the call which are subject to federal regulation or to regulation by the Board of Public Utilities pursuant to Title 48 of the Revised Statutes, but shall not include any regulated announcement services, directory or operator services offered by telephone companies, or services offered on a presubscription basis.
“Information service provider” means a person who advertises or sells an information service.
