- person: includes corporations, companies, associations, societies, firms, partnerships and joint stock companies as well as individuals, unless restricted by the context to an individual as distinguished from a corporate entity or specifically restricted to one or some of the above enumerated synonyms and, when used to designate the owner of property which may be the subject of an offense, includes this State, the United States, any other State of the United States as defined infra and any foreign country or government lawfully owning or possessing property within this State. - Subpoena: A command to a witness to appear and give testimony.
Upon return of the order, the judge before whom the matter shall come on for hearing shall examine such person under oath, and if the judge shall determine, after giving such person an opportunity to be heard, that he refused without legal excuse to comply with such subpoena or such order of the commissioners holding such investigation, the judge may order such person to comply therewith forthwith and any failure to obey the order of the judge may be punished as a contempt of the Superior Court.
