Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 10-7-4 N.M. Stat. Ann. and in addition to all other benefits provided commissioned officers, the department shall provide life insurance coverage in the amount of twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) for each state police officer to be paid to his designated beneficiary. The coverage shall include double indemnity provisions for death incurred in line of duty. The coverage shall be provided by a group term insurance policy, the premium for which shall be paid out of state funds appropriated to the department of public safety.
