A. To the greatest extent possible, the Indian Family Protection Act shall be read as in harmony with the federal Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978.
B. The provisions of the Children’s Code [N.M. Stat. Ann. Chapter 32A] are supplemental to and in harmony with the Indian Family Protection Act. The provisions of the Indian Family Protection Act govern child custody proceedings involving Indian children. To the extent the provisions of those acts or any provision of New Mexico state law conflicts with the provisions of the Indian Family Protection Act, the provisions of the Indian Family Protection Act shall apply.
