- Affordable workforce housing: means housing for individuals and families at or below one hundred thirty percent of the median income for the Nassau-Suffolk primary metropolitan statistical area as defined by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. See N.Y. General Municipal Law 699-A
- Amendment: A proposal to alter the text of a pending bill or other measure by striking out some of it, by inserting new language, or both. Before an amendment becomes part of the measure, thelegislature must agree to it.
- Assets: (1) The property comprising the estate of a deceased person, or (2) the property in a trust account.
- Density bonus: means a density increase of at least ten percent over the otherwise maximum allowable residential density or floor area ratio if part of a mixed-use development under the applicable zoning ordinance and comprehensive plan as of the date of the application by the applicant to the local government. - Ex officio: Literally, by virtue of one's office.
- Minority leader: See Floor Leaders
- Mortgage: The written agreement pledging property to a creditor as collateral for a loan.
- Oversight: Committee review of the activities of a Federal agency or program.
- Partnership: A voluntary contract between two or more persons to pool some or all of their assets into a business, with the agreement that there will be a proportional sharing of profits and losses.
- Trial: A hearing that takes place when the defendant pleads "not guilty" and witnesses are required to come to court to give evidence.
