§ 40-a. Manufacture and sale of outboard motors. No outboard motor manufactured after January first, nineteen hundred eighty shall be sold or offered for commercial sale by a dealer in this state unless such motor shall have permanently engraved thereon by the manufacturer an identifying serial number. Such serial mark shall be of a permanent nature so as to prevent or discourage the removal, defacing, alteration or destruction thereof. Anyone violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a violation punishable by a fine of not less than one hundred nor more than two hundred fifty dollars.
