Terms Used In North Carolina General Statutes 135-111

  • Attachment: A procedure by which a person's property is seized to pay judgments levied by the court.
  • Benefits: shall mean the monthly disability income payments made pursuant to the provisions of this Article. See North Carolina General Statutes 135-101
  • Garnishment: Generally, garnishment is a court proceeding in which a creditor asks a court to order a third party who owes money to the debtor or otherwise holds assets belonging to the debtor to turn over to the creditor any of the debtor

Subject to the provisions of this Article, the provisions of N.C. Gen. Stat. § 135-9, entitled “Exemption from taxes, garnishment, attachment, etc.”; N.C. Gen. Stat. § 135-10, entitled “Protection against fraud”; N.C. Gen. Stat. § 135-10.1, entitled “Failure to Respond”; and N.C. Gen. Stat. § 135-17, entitled “Facility of payment” shall be applicable to this Article and to benefits paid pursuant to the provisions of this Article.
