Under the N.C. Gen. Statutes, punishments for crimes depend on the classification. In the case of this section:Class | Prison | Fine |

If any prisoner removed from the local confinement facility or satellite jail/work release unit of a county pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. § 162-58 shall escape from the person having him in custody or the person supervising him, he shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
