The Department shall report by October 1 of each year to the chairs of the Justice and Public Safety Appropriations Committees and the chairs of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety on county prisoners housed in the State prison system pursuant to safekeeping orders under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 162-39 The report shall include:

(1) The number of safekeepers currently housed by the Department.

  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.

  • state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the said district and territories and all dependencies. (2) A list of the facilities where safekeepers are housed and the population of safekeepers by facility.

(3) The average length of stay by a safekeeper in one of those facilities.

(4) The amount paid by counties for housing and extraordinary medical care of safekeepers.
