Application for the writ shall be made in writing, signed by the applicant –
(1) To any one of the justices or judges of the appellate division.

- Appellate: About appeals; an appellate court has the power to review the judgement of another lower court or tribunal.
- in writing: may be construed to include printing, engraving, lithographing, and any other mode of representing words and letters: Provided, that in all cases where a written signature is required by law, the same shall be in a proper handwriting, or in a proper mark. - Writ: A formal written command, issued from the court, requiring the performance of a specific act.
