All deeds, conveyances and other instruments executed prior to the effective date of this Chapter and validated by the curative provisions of former N.C. Gen. Stat. § 55-36.1 and former Article 12 of Chapter 55 as they were immediately prior to such effective date shall be valid and effective to the same extent as if those provisions had not been amended or repealed.  The provisions of former N.C. Gen. Stat. § 55-36 shall continue to apply to all instruments executed before July 1, 1990, to which that section applied.
