Every vessel on the waters of this State shall be numbered, except those vessels exempted from numbering under N.C. Gen. Stat. § 75A-7 No person shall operate or give permission for the operation of any vessel on the waters of this State unless all of the following conditions are met:
(1) The vessel is numbered in accordance with this Chapter, or in accordance with applicable federal law, or in accordance with a federally approved numbering system of another state.
Terms Used In North Carolina General Statutes 75A-4
- Certificate of number: means the document and permanent identification number issued by the Wildlife Resources Commission for the purpose of registering a vessel in this State. See North Carolina General Statutes 75A-2
- following: when used by way of reference to any section of a statute, shall be construed to mean the section next preceding or next following that in which such reference is made; unless when some other section is expressly designated in such reference. See North Carolina General Statutes 12-3
- Operate: means to navigate or otherwise use or occupy any motorboat or vessel that is afloat. See North Carolina General Statutes 75A-2
- Person: means an individual, partnership, firm, corporation, association, or other entity. See North Carolina General Statutes 75A-2
- state: when applied to the different parts of the United States, shall be construed to extend to and include the District of Columbia and the several territories, so called; and the words "United States" shall be construed to include the said district and territories and all dependencies. See North Carolina General Statutes 12-3
- Vessel: means every description of watercraft or structure, other than a seaplane on the water, used or capable of being used as a means of transportation or habitation on the water. See North Carolina General Statutes 75A-2
(2) The certificate of number awarded to the vessel is in full force and effect.
