Ohio Code 4501.023 – Registrar and deputy registrars – voter registration duties
(A) The registrar of motor vehicles shall designate an employee of the bureau of motor vehicles to be in charge of and responsible for voter registration within the bureau. Each deputy registrar of motor vehicles shall designate an employee in that deputy registrar’s office to be in charge of and responsible for voter registration within that office.

- State: includes the territories and federal districts of the United States, and the provinces of Canada. See Ohio Code 4501.01
- Vehicles: means everything on wheels or runners, including motorized bicycles, but does not mean electric personal assistive mobility devices, low-speed micromobility devices, vehicles that are operated exclusively on rails or tracks or from overhead electric trolley wires, and vehicles that belong to any police department, municipal fire department, or volunteer fire department, or that are used by such a department in the discharge of its functions. (B) The registrar shall provide, in cooperation with the secretary of state, a training program and materials for initial training in voter registration and for ongoing training for all deputy registrars and their employees.
(C) The registrar shall report to the secretary of state at least once annually the number of applicants for licenses served and the number of voter registration transactions completed and transmitted to the board of elections by the registrar and all deputy registrars.
