Ohio Code 4765.41 – Local written protocols
The medical director or cooperating physician advisory board of each emergency medical service organization shall establish written protocols to be followed by first responders, emergency medical technicians-basic, emergency medical technicians-intermediate, and emergency medical technicians-paramedic in performing emergency medical services. Those protocols shall be consistent with applicable trauma triage protocols adopted under division (A) or approved under division (B)(2) of section 4765.40 of the Revised Code, but may direct to an adult or pediatric trauma center emergency victims that the applicable trauma triage protocols do not require to be transported to an adult or pediatric trauma center.
Terms Used In Ohio Code 4765.41
- Adult: means involving a patient who is not a pediatric patient. See Ohio Code 4765.01
- Emergency medical service: includes such services performed before or during any transport of a patient, including transports between hospitals and transports to and from helicopters. See Ohio Code 4765.01
- Pediatric: means involving a patient who is less than sixteen years of age. See Ohio Code 4765.01
- Physician: means an individual who holds a current, valid license issued under Chapter 4731 of the Revised Code authorizing the practice of medicine and surgery or osteopathic medicine and surgery. See Ohio Code 4765.01
- Trauma center: means all of the following:
(1) Any hospital that is verified by the American college of surgeons as an adult or pediatric trauma center;
(2) Any hospital that is operating as an adult or pediatric trauma center under provisional status pursuant to section 3727. See Ohio Code 4765.01
