N.Y. Executive Law 225-A – Lost and found property
§ 225-a. Lost and found property. The state police shall perform the duties with respect to found property and found instruments provided in Article 7-b of the personal property law. The superintendent may designate a member or members of the state police to accept and keep custody of found property and instruments, may prescribe procedures for determining the value and for estimating the net sum likely to be realized by sale at public auction of lost property as defined in such article, for disposition of derelict automobiles and other property having no value or salvage value only and for sale of property as authorized by such article and may prescribe rules not inconsistent with such article seven-b with respect to form and manner of giving notices and with respect to forms of reports of found property or instruments and with respect to storage of found property.
