* § 209-aa. Paid leave for disaster service volunteers. 1. Members of the uniformed force of the fire department of the city of New York who are certified disaster service volunteers of the American red cross shall be granted leave from work with regular pay to participate in specialized disaster relief operations upon written request for the services of such members by the American red cross and upon the approval of the fire commissioner, which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld.

  • Fiscal year: The fiscal year is the accounting period for the government. For the federal government, this begins on October 1 and ends on September 30. The fiscal year is designated by the calendar year in which it ends; for example, fiscal year 2006 begins on October 1, 2005 and ends on September 30, 2006.

2. The paid leave set forth in subdivision one of this section shall be provided for a cumulative total of no more than one hundred days of paid leave for all participating members during any fiscal year of the fire department of the city of New York.

3. The fire department of the city of New York shall promulgate appropriate guidelines for the participation of members of the uniformed force as certified disaster service volunteers of the American red cross within ninety days after the effective date of this section.
