After selection of such rights and property under ORS § 223.010 in such manner as the council provides, the city seeking to make the appropriation may proceed in the manner prescribed by the statutes for the appropriation of land for corporate purposes, and not otherwise, unless otherwise provided by law, to have such property appropriated and the compensation therefor determined and paid. However, the compensation for such condemnation by a city shall be paid by a deposit in the court of an order drawn upon the city treasurer for the amount of compensation.
