Oregon Statutes 357.925 – Poet Laureate office; qualifications; term
(1) There is established the office of Poet Laureate of the State of Oregon for the purpose of honoring the resident poets of Oregon who have been most responsible for capturing the beauty and spirit of the state through the medium of verse.

- Person: includes individuals, corporations, associations, firms, partnerships, limited liability companies and joint stock companies. See Oregon Statutes 174.100
(2) The person appointed to the office of Poet Laureate of the State of Oregon must be a person who:
(a) Has been a resident of Oregon for at least 10 years.
(b) Is currently a resident of Oregon.
(c) Is publicly recognized as a poet and is well regarded for excellence in the person’s work.
(d) Has a significant body of published work.
(e) Agrees to the conditions and the term of the appointment.
(3) Within one year after the office of Poet Laureate of the State of Oregon becomes vacant, the Governor shall appoint a qualified person to the office of Poet Laureate of the State of Oregon to serve at the pleasure of the Governor for a term of two years.
